How To Download and View Pictures on Your Kindle (Modified)

1. Connect kindle to your computer via USB cable.

2. Click on “My computer” and identify Kindle as a removable device on your computer.

3. Click to open and ID the document, Audible, and music folder.

4. Create and add a new folder and name it “Pictures.”

5. Create and name sub-folders in this “Picture” folder, one for each group of pictures you will download.

6. Copy pictures to the appropriate sub-folder with either the .jpg, gif, or .png format.

7. Disconnect Kindle from the computer.

8. Go to your Kindle “Home” screen, pressВ  and hold ALT + Z until Kindle recognizes the sub-folder you created as a book and it appears on the screen. Use the select key to open and view the photos.

9. Navigate forward and backward using the “Next page” and “previous page” button.

the difference between “ordinary” and “extra-ordinary” is that little “extra.”

I have followed these instructions for downloading pics to the Kindle to the letter and when I hit Alt Z, nothing happens. Help?

Instead of using “Alt + Z,” press the “Home” key, scroll down, locate the picture file, use the select key to open and view the photos. Use the “Prev page” and “Next page” button to navigate forward and backward.

I don’t see any folders in my Home screen. The only items I see on the Home screen are the contents of the \documents folder. The Kindle doesn’t display th e \Audible or \music folders either, just the documents contents.

Try this for step #8, it worked perfectly for me: Go to your Kindle “Home” screen, press and hold ALT + Z until Kindle recognizes the sub-folder you created as a book and it appears on the screen. Use the select key to open and view the photos

Let me know if it worked this time.

Need trick, no need for that email conversion bullcrap. Amazon or someone should just release a converter program for us to use.

This method doesn’t work on my Kindle 2. I followed the instructions multiple times and can hold Control Z forever and nothing happens.

I can’t “scroll down” and locate the picture file because it doesn’t show up anywhere..

  8. Frestech - March 7, 2010

This method was for Kindle 1. Sorry!

  9. LegendAssassin - May 20, 2010

This worked fine for me on my Kindle 2 and I just got it today… You have to make to Picture folders one inside the other like this Root -> Pictures -> Picture -> jpg… also, for music you have to press ATL+Space Bar and use ALT+F to change songs. There is no viewer for Music so you have to have it in order and know what is coming up next

This will also work for the Kindle 3. I created an image in Photoshop that includes my contact info and put it in a subfolder titled “Owner Info”. If someone found it they might click on this “book” and see my contact info and, hopefully, return it.

I have the latest Kindle, I did download 3 pics but cannot do it again to add pics and can’t get them to rotate on my screen. What gives?

I have a Kindle 3. Made a sub folder in documents. Tried the ALT Z method does not work. How did sundrop get it to work?

  13. Frestech - February 15, 2011

I don’t know what you are doing wrong, but this method still works. You make want to make sure that the pictures are not too large…and that they are in .png, .gif, or .jpeg formats.

I have a Kindle 3. Worked perfect. One note: I didn’t time it but you need to hold Alt-Z for probably about 15 seconds or until it adds the sub folder. The sub folder will appear as a book.

I’ve tired to download my pic using the tips. I’m still not having any luck. I just bought my kindle two weeks ago. What I’m I doing wrong?

When I plug my kindle to my computer my pic are there but when I disconnect it from my computer I can’t find my pic on my kindle>

  17. Frestech - April 11, 2011

did you drag and drop it into the documents folder while it is plugged to the computer? Did you go to the home screen after you unplug the Kindle?

  18. AugustFalcon - April 13, 2011

Dunno if it makes a difference but on my Kindle3 I made a “picture” folder not a “Picture” folder. IOW lowercase the folder name. Why I did alt-z it didn’t work the first or second time. So, then I turned the Kindle off and on and did alt-z again for about 15 seconds. At first I thought it had failed once more since my subfolder (named atestpic) didn’t show up on the home screen for another 15 seconds or so.

    Now it works a treat.

  22. Fabian Winkler - April 28, 2011

On my Kindle 3 the instruction with 15sec alt+z works fine. I create a subfolder “pictures”. Copied a manga into it and after alt+z it was recognized in the home screen overview. Very nice. Thanks for the instructions.
