Kindle Update! You Can Now View PDF Docs Natively And Rotate Screen!

Kindle Update! You Can Now View PDF Docs Natively And Rotate Screen!

On this one I could have said, “I told you so!” But! that’s not necessary.

kindlerotate5

You see,  with all the new ereading devices popping up all over the place and bloggers and websites making much “adoo” about which is the best and who will come out on top…one thing always stuck out!

The Early leader Amazon Kindle is not going to roll over and die.

While the critics are talking, the pessimists are doubting, and the optimists are expecting, Amazon is quietly working behind the scenes to improve on its beloved kindlerotate2Kindle.

They know very well, that this technology is the next big thing…and that he who gives the public what it wants will be the eventual “winner.”

So! when they announced the addition of screen rotation and native PDF file view on the device via software update…it was hardly a surprise.

These new additions don’t seem like much, but they are a big improvements. Personally, I’ve had my share of bad experience with viewing PDF files on the device (words all jumbled and indistinct), but hopefully that’s now solved.

As for the screen rotation, it’s a bit crude, but the screen does rotate. One would expect it to rotate automatically when you rotate the device but that’s not the case.

Instead, you have to press the “AA” button, select one of the four rotation options,  and rotate.

What’s next? Perhaps, full-fledge internet access. After all, Kindle is the only dedicated ereading device with any kind of internet access …even though it is far from perfect.

One would have to think that they are working behind the scenes to make this better too.

There is no doubt that if they can perfect it, it will give Kindle yet kindlerotate4another edge over its rivals.

Click here to learn more about these features.

Of course, none of these new features work on your Kindle until you get the new software.

To know if your kindle have these new features installed, click on the “home” key, then the “menu” key, and select settings.  Look at the bottom of the screen. If  you don’t see version 2.3, you don’t have it yet.

You can do one of two things to get the update: Wait until Amazon do it for you automatically (make sure you keep your wireless on)…this may take a few days, or download it yourself manually to your computer.

To do so,  click here then select Applying Kindle Software Updates Manually and use the USB cable to download it on your Kindle….that’s what I did!

So! Will these new features give Kindle the Upper hand? What do you think? Let us know your thoughts.

Why it will take more than Just ePub format and Free google Public domain ebooks to Topple the Amazon Kindle

Why it will take more than Just ePub format and Free google Public domain ebooks to Topple the Amazon Kindle

The ereader is not just about ebooks, and access to public format. It is also about price, content genre, service, convenience,  features, internet access, and more…

The latest hype that Sony’s new ebook readers are about to take over the ebook world is ridiculous and premature.

Yes it now delivers wireless, ePub format, and access to google public domain ebook, and will be available at local retail outlets, but it is also more expensive than the Amazon kindle and it doesn’t offer access to magazines, newspapers, and blogs.

Unless Sony can find a way to drop the price, offer internet access and other features, it is still in for a fight.

let’s not forget what the public want! A cheap device with a lot of features, just like the iPhone.

I continue to make this anology because I have seen it!

The iPhone started at 500 bucks when it came on the scene, but only a few could afford it. Now a few  years later, it is 99 bucks and just about everyone can afford it.  Not to mention the large amount of additional features that comes along with it…which if you ask me, is what most people are interested in..not just the phone itself.

ebook  readers will have to follow a similar model.  It cannot just confine itself to just being an electronic book, it must offer more…especially for those who don’t really like to read.

The price will have to fall to somwhere around 90 bucks, it will have to offer internet access, easy access to books everywhere with very little restrictions, plus other features that the general public enjoy and find useful.

Yes, Sony has made progress, and google is plotting a coup, but it is going to take more than just mere manipulation of the general public to win customers. It is going to take substance.

He who delivers will come out on top.  Thus far, the Amazon kindle is the only ereader with internet access, plus it offer new york bestsellers below  10 bucks…and yes you can access free books from numerous sources and read on the device.

The kindle store is not the only source of content as many would have you believe. You can always get the content from elswwhere and convert it to one of the many compatible formats which is relatively simple…considering the fact that Amazon offers a free service for that.

So it is going to take more than just epub format and access to free google ebooks to topple the kindle.

…and Amazon is not going to just roll over and die.
