Kindle 3 Update
I am a little late in posting this (was a little busy), but better late than never. The blog would not be complete with this post.
We must keep up to date with the latest developments…
Just Like I predicted at the end of last year…Kindle 3 has arrived in style in the year 2010
Here’s a look at what it has to offer…and my take on each added feature….
- All-New, High-Contrast E-Ink Screen – 50% better contrast than any other e-reader (ok…contrast was fine with me…not much hoopla here!)
- Read in Bright Sunlight – No glare ( old stuff)
- New and Improved Fonts – New crisper, darker fonts (I waiting to see the difference!)
- New Sleek Design – 21% smaller body while keeping the same 6″ size reading area (ok…that means it is thinner, let’s hope it is not more susceptible to damage.)
- 15% Lighter – Only 8.7 ounces, weighs less than a paperback (interesting…but I had no former issue with the weight.)
- Battery Life of One Month – A single charge lasts up to one month with wireless off (we’ll see about this one – you can actually extend your battery life for a long time by turning off the wireless and use it only when you need to transmit data.)
- Double the Storage – Up to 3,500 Books (old stuff)
- Books in 60 Seconds – Download books anytime, anywhere (old stuff…but with 3G technology it seems like amazon has something up its sleeves. I wonder what it is…perhaps full fledge free internet browsing. They are already boasting that it is the same technology used by advanced cell phones without the contract and fees. Well, we will see if this materializes.)
- Built-In Wi-Fi – In addition to the 3G wireless, you can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots (sounds good but one can only hope you can access these hotspots…not too many unsecure networks out there…unless of course amazon is planning to provide its own access points.)
- 20% Faster Page Turns – Seamless reading (This is needed, the page turn is somewhat delay with the 2nd generation…)
- Enhanced PDF Reader – With dictionary lookup, notes, and highlights (Interesting…we will see how enhanced this is.)
- New WebKit-Based Browser – Free 3G web browsing (experimental…not much of an improvement. We think that eventually amazon will give us a full fledge browser that can do “everything.” I wonder how long that’s going to take. It is time to get rid of that “experimental” stuff.)
Two Versions
Version 1 – no 3G wireless – meaning it is just a continuation of kindle2 with a little bit of enhancement in a smaller package.
Version 2 – 3G wireless – meaning it is a step up from kindle 2
Personally, I will be getting the 3G version, because I want to see what that is all about. Thus far I have had all the previous two generations and I am please with it. I am really not thinking about any other reading device.
…plus the fact that you can continue to read you kindle content on your iphone, ipod, android smart phone, computer, …and so on. Now that’s kool. I just got a new cell phone plan and I made sure I got an android phone simply for the purpose of reading my kindle content among other things.
Now if you ask me whether or not the metamorphosis is moving along well, I would say yes. I can only imagine what it will morph into the next few years.
Once again we see Amazon take the lead with this 3G wireless technology. You can expect others to follow suit.
…and not to mention the international capability…reading kindle just about everywhere on the globe. That’s awesome.

I twitted your current article, and Two of my followers retweetted your that article, looks like many people favored your articles as well. I assume, it will be really excellent if you spot a “twit-it” button in your blogposts, there was a wordpress plugin for this work, I suppose its name was something like “twit it” or “tweet it”
