Ereader Market Set for Explosive Growth
Ereader Market Set for Explosive GrowthAccording to In-Stat, worldwide electronic reader sales totaled just over 1 million last year. iSuppli estimates 18 million unit sales in 2012, while In-Stat sees 30 million in 2013
Currently, the Amazon Kindle leads with a 45% market share, while the Sony digital reader is a close second with 30%. (according to iSuppli)…but there is a lot of time for the current landscape to change.
On Tuesday, Sony announced the arrival of its Reader daily edition (due in December) equipped with 3G wireless capabilty via AT&T’s wireless network…supposedly taking care of a weakness that many experts considered to be hugely responsible for it second place status.
In addition, it deviated from being just another ereader by adding four new features: touchscreen, retail distribution, access to free content, and support of EPUB digital format.
We are still wating to see how Amazon responds to this move.
